Video-surveillance

Are you planning to use video-surveillance? Organisations that use video-surveillance need to comply with the rules in the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Camera Surveillance Act. The rules are different depending on your organisation and the location being monitored.

For those considering the use of video-surveillance

If you want to carry out video-surveillance, there are a few things you need to consider.

Inform about your video-surveillance

You must inform about the video-surveillance.

Video-surveillance of employees

You need strong reasons as to why it is necessary to monitor employees at their place of work.

New rules from April 1 2025

From April 1 2025, organisations no longer have to apply for a permit for video-surveillance. Organisations that previously had to apply for a permit before the new law came into force, must make a documented balance of interests and list all video-surveillance before starting to monitor.

Please visit our Swedish pages to find more detailed information about camera surveillance in specific situations.
